Housed in a bright blue barn at Stone Soup Farm in Hadley, MA, Katie Richardson, owner of Blue Barn Studios, creates a variety of high quality housewares and jewelry from glass and steel with a contemporary farm aesthetic. Flame-worked glass forms the intricate flower pendants, lively bud vases, earthy vegetable earrings and mesmerizing bottle stoppers, while a variety of welding processes are used to create whimsical garden spirals, elegant steel candelabras, and contemporary planters. She hopes to enrich peoples’ lives with beautiful and functional objects that delight the eye and remind people of the creativity in humanity.
Classes and workshops in welding and fire-forming glass are also available through Blue Barn Studio, as well as local art centers. Richardson formerly taught at SnowFarm’s Summer High School Art Program, and was previously the coordinator for Get Up Get Down, an arts- for-change program that engages youth in art and activism through public art, murals and metalwork. Katie is also an elementary ELL Teacher (English Language Learner), and enjoys working with students from many different cultures. She earned her M.Ed from UMASS Amherst in 2010 and is currently pursuing an MFA in Visual Arts at Vermont College of Fine Arts. As an artist and an educator, Katie is committed to creativity, community, justice and joy. Gallery. |
